Mission and History

Mission: Fort Lauderdale-Broward APRI Gentle Warriors – the youth activists of the Fort Lauderdale-Broward APRI Inc. – is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that is dedicated to the memory and work of the greatest Black Labor leader in American history and the father of the modern American civil rights movement , pioneer Asa Philip Randolph (1889-1979).

Our broader mission is to improve the lives of these students through the power of partnership, education and support, thereby transforming the community.

Key initiatives of APRI Gentle Warriors are as follows:

  • Motivate and empower blacks and other minority students to reach their full potential through education, leadership, and mentoring and to encourage their recognition of individual social responsibilities leading to future activist and labor leaders.
  • Teach the youth of APRI the skills and attitudes needed to make better life choices and break the intergenerational cycle of inequality.
  • Increase awareness and educate the community regarding issues related to continued struggle for social, political and economic justice for all working Americans and what APRI can do to help.
  • Increase the effectiveness of our political alliances between labor, students, and the general public through voter registration drives, voter education and voter turnout projects.
